MEET THE DIRECTOR
Director: SMITHMON SASI
Director Smithmon Sasi, who likes to be called Smith, is a qualified nurse from South India, and has a Masters degree in Business Administration from Glyndwr University in Wrexham, North Wales. He has achieved level 7 Leadership and Management in Health.
After graduating in India Smith worked as a nurse for two years and then moved to England to pursue a masters degree. While studying he worked in the care industry for nine years.
Smith’s life-long dream has been to start his own business and support the community. The idea for a day centre is a tribute to his grandparents and his Indian heritage and culture which reveres and respects older people. Smith’s love for his grandparents, his gentle manner and his passion to provide exceptional day care so that older people can remain in their own homes for as long as possible have driven him to pursue this path. He also wants to provide much needed support for families struggling with a loved one who has dementia. The care is often overwhelming and he has simple suggestions that can ease the frustration and create better wellbeing. Smith set up a weekly coffee morning even before the day centre was ready so that he could provide support to families struggling.
Smith’s research showed him that older people living with dementia want to remain in their own homes and they would like a type of social club to prevent loneliness, where they can enjoy a hot meal and have a fun day out. Families of older persons living with dementia told him they needed somewhere their relatives could go for a fun day out when they had to run errands or have a much-needed break, without feeling guilty and without worrying.
Learning that the Devonshire Dementia Care Home was planning a day centre, Smith approached Care Manager Vanessa Edwards to see if she would consider leasing him the space to run his day centre business. The rest is history!
Smith is handpicking his team of carers. Applicants do not have to have any formal training or experience in care for older people. He is looking for that special spark or personality in his future employees. He is confident that if the applicant has the right attitude and is willing to learn he is willing to roll up his sleeves and train them to be exceptional carers
